Comments from Chard Town Council August 2026

The Town Council is aware of the long history behind planning for an east relief road
for Chard. The Town Council is a consultee on strategic planning and individual
planning applications. The Town Council is not the Strategic Planning Authority or
Highway Authority; those roles rest with Somerset Council. The Town Council will
work to represent Chard’s community to balance economic needs and environmental
impact, whilst at the same time achieving the growth and development that Chard
needs, including the associated community infrastructure. The Town Council eagerly
awaits an update report from Somerset Council which it understands is planned to
be compete summer 2026.
