Proudly hosted by community leaders and town mayors, featuring local uniformed youth groups including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, and Brownies marching through the town centre alongside civic dignitaries. The parade generally takes place on the Sunday prior to St. George’s Day.

The next parade takes place Sunday 18th April 2027.

Remembrance commemorations are observed to honour the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women involved in the two World Wars, and in later conflicts.

The council works with The Royal British Legion’s local branch to provide the following:

The council recognises and reflects on this day with a parade from the Guildhall to St. Mary’s Church. Local dignitaries, verterans, mayor’s from surrounding towns, as well as members of local community groups and services attend and are invited to lay a Remembrance wreath at the war memorial. This is followed by a Remembrance service in the church.

During the parade a road closure will be in place. This closure effects Fore Street from its junction with Boden Street to its junction with Holyrood Street and Holyrood Street for its duration.

The next Remembrance Sunday parade takes place Sunday 8th November 2026.

On the 11th November at 11:00am the Mayor will lead a two-minutes silence on Fore Street outside the Guildhall. This two-minute silent pause of remembrance is observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to mark the end of the First World War.

There will be a short road closure during this time on Fore Street from the junction with Boden Street to the junction with Holyrood Street.
