National Highways will be replacing the existing central reservation safety barrier with a new steel system,
helping to improve safety for road users.
Work will start on the 2nd November for a period of 9 months, completing in July 2027.
The main works will be carried out during the daytime and include removal of the existing barrier system and installation of a new steel safety barrier.
Enabling works will also be required within certain sections of the hard shoulder.
Some overnight closures of the motorway will be required as we set up the traffic management and prepare the site for work.
A 50mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the work, enforced by average speed cameras.
Traffic Management
To carry out the works safely, overnight road closures are required to set up the traffic management.
Once done, most of the work will be carried out under a lane 3 closure, with lanes 1 and 2 remaining open to traffic. Further occasional overnight carriageway closures will also be required as the work progresses between Junctions 25 and 26.
Advance notice of significant traffic management arrangements will be provided through roadside signage and National Highways communication channels.
Diversions
During the closure periods, a fully signed diversion route will be in place, using the A38 through Taunton / Wellington and vice versa.
Access to Taunton Deane Services will not be possible during the road closure periods, and vehicles leaving the services will be escorted safely through our work.
