Summary from Chard Town Council October 2026

Chard Town Council’s Extraordinary Full Council 12.10.26 considered the Hive
(youth club at the Young People’s Centre) in relation to its Service Level Agreement
(SLA) with the Town Council.

There was a good number of residents, particularly those supporting the Hive who
overflowed the public gallery. Council heard several questions and statements from
the public and then entered Exempt business to conclude its deliberations. Chairman
Councillor Tricia O’Brien thanked everyone for attending.

There was a lengthy, thorough and often passionate debate which underlined the
importance of providing an informal place for young people in Chard.

Council wholly accepted that the Motion to immediately “freeze” the Town Council’s
funding be withdrawn and therefore that earmarking those funds was not necessary.
Council also Decided that the Town Clerk work with the Hive to undertake a review
of the Hive’s compliance with the SLA.
