Please find below an update following recent meetings with Wales and West Utilities regarding the upcoming gas main replacement works on the A358 Old Town, Chard.
The cast iron gas main in this road is at the end of its serviceable life and needs to be replaced by December 2025 to avoid interruptions to the gas supply. Works will commence on 13th August under 3-way temporary traffic signals on the junction of Mill Lane and Old Town Road and are scheduled to complete by the 6th October.
A358 Furnham Road
- Works are scheduled to complete by 12th August and Furnham Road will be reopened to traffic on this date.
- Wales & West Utilities will issue communications confirming the reopening.
- Works will be continuing along Glynswood by Wessex Water
A358 Old Town Road
The works will be phased as follows:
- 13th–20th August: Mill Lane & Old Town under multi-way traffic signals
- 13th August: Wheddon Court (localised traffic management)
- 20th August–6th October: A358 Old Town under a road closure
